Maiko - Minarai (denotes apprenticeship stage)

“Maiko means Dancer Child”

This position within the FC is one of IC importance as Maikos will be the one of the driving forces that bring people to RP. There are several things to keep in mind when applying for this position:

In order to portray this properly, your character would be learning and training to perform by singing, dancing, playing an instrument, conducting a tea ceremony, the art of conversation and other cultured activities.  They learn to be comfortable striking up a conversation with a stranger. And working on at all times to appear graceful and gracious.  At this stage, Maikos are still apprentices and learning from their Big Sister, so they will not have every skill down pat. They work hard everyday to perfect their skills so they can earn the title of Geisha.

Maiko are not prostitutes. If you are thinking of applying for this position because it will provide you ample opportunity for erp, don’t bother.  This is not an erp guild and we will not promote such behaviors. Yes, historically, some were forced to pick up the sex trade and some even did so willingly; but within our setting, it is not a service offered by the business.

Another thing to keep in mind if you’re interested in this position that it requires activity. We will rely heavily on this rank for server and private events alike. By being an active participant, not only will you establish some great RP connections, you’ll also be making some wonderful opportunities for character advancement.

IC requirements:

In order to obtain the Geisha rank, the character must go through an interview to show  what skills they possess.  This rank is not easily handed out and will require effort to obtain.  During the interview, they will be asked to demonstrate how to serve tea while carrying on a conversation that reflects how well they know current worldly affairs. If the character wishes to be a performer, they must demonstrate their aptitude in singing, dancing, and playing an instrument.

If given the title of Geisha, the following will occur.

  1. A naming ceremony where the Geisha will be provided her special Geisha name.

  2. Be assigned a Maiko. Geisha are expected to be a role model to her younger sister and expected to maintain high standards of etiquette in all aspects of her life and lead by setting an example every day.
